Yes, take care. We have a burn just at the bottom of the field that our house is in. Luckily it slopes down from our house, as the burn is about to overflow and there is a lot of standing water beside it.....eek!

lol I kept a respectable distance from the bank edge, and tested the ground before I entrusted my weight to it. I trieed to capture the force of the current iwth the back-eddies that it threw up, there were several clear ones, but I didn't feel like going closer to the edge to catch them

I saw a programme years ago, they got a stuntman rigged with safety wires to see how much of a "rising flood" stream he could navigate: as soon as it got to knee height it took his feet out from under him - not the depth, but the sheer force of the flow.

so many people don't take water seriously - it's fairly shallow, it must be safe. They don't show it enough respect, and it turns and bites them.

Amazing how quick these little river tributaries rise up and drop back down again quickly. Our little river is culverted in one part near us and a natural stream a bit further up.
This morning it was quite high and fast, up the walls and rushing past in its concrete channel. Recently 2 egrets visited, I couldn't believe my eyes! Otters next perhaps? They might be in your stream. I am more used to trollius supermakitus in the stream!

yes, I agree Fran. ours is flowing very fast too. In the summer children were playing on it's banks, but then it looked very 'friendly' and to be honest, I think farming kids have more awareness generally.

I want to find out where the book rises: I assume it feeds in to the Severn, but where? So much to discover!

That's just the sort of thing that fascinates me too Fran! Once I found the walled garden over the hill! I had to find out why it was there...then I found out about the demolished mansion and I had to know what it looked like and where it was sited...and then I realised that what I had thought was a Victorian dairy was actually the old stables for the demolished house! Then I discovered that my neighbour does all his veg. Growing in the old walled garden....so now I'm dying to speak to him and see if I can join in! Lol!
