west coast waves today

I remember, as a young boy, seeing a roaring sea for the first time.
I was mesmerised.
I love nature with the mantle of nicety cast aside!
Mess with her and she'll tear you apart, no messing! Lol.

Saw a report on the BBC about the sea waves down in Cornwall...reportedly 40 ft. waves! What a source of energy that would be...if only it could be accessed. There are plans for tidal/hydro power generators in the Bay of Fundy.

these were around the 30 ft mark. there is lots of talk of wind turbines in the waves but environmentalists are worried about the effect on the sea life...we have a large tidal river the river Severn with a strong tide twice a day every day. the Severn barrage road bridge/turbine has been on the drawing board since the 70's but the salmon swim up the river to spawn in the spring and they don't seem to be able to find an answer to the problem.

The same concerns have been voiced here too, Sandra. We have salmon "elevators" around some of the power plants over here. Personally, I'm cheering for the environmentalists. So many of our large rivers have been used for power stations that whole watersheds have been rerouted and lakes created. The process of a reservoir evolving into a natural lake is a sketchy, risky one too...especially if it covers old road beds...and the decay of submerged vegetation releases a lot of "volatile organic compounds" into the water. have you seen the venturi wind generators? strange looking things but they will generate electricity from a 2 mph wind!
