Spring-flowering tree, reaching twenty feet. Prefers a humus-rich acid or neutral soil, in sun or part shade, with shelter from strong winds. My tree is nearly thirty years old now.

DD - I grew up in Exmouth, Devon, which is where the first magnolias were grown in this country. Sometimes, it seemed as if every other garden in the town had one growing.

There are so many here in Lee everyone looking magnificent the weather has been so hot that they are starting to drop, our Stellata will be up and over in no time.....but what a sight!!

That's a lovely one, Andrew. I wish I knew the full name of my white one. Looking at the adverts on my right, I suppose it could be M. x soulangea 'Alba'!!!

Spritz - it's just the straight cross, not a named one, but still my favourite. Plant Finder lists 26 named ones - take your pick!
