Tragopogon porrifolius - 2014

Tragopogon porrifolius - 2014 (Tragopogon porrifolius)

The root of this plant is the vegetable salsify, but I grow it for the flowers. The stems are about 2 to 3 feet tall, and it likes a sunny position. It is a biennial but a ready seeder, so only let one or two plants go to seed to avoid being inundated with it the following year.

I tried to grow it once (at my old house). That was on clay though.

Meanie - that's interesting. Now you come to mention it, I've never had a seedling on the side of my garden where the soil has lots of clay in it.

They just struggled on to an inglorious death there. I should try again here.

Meanie - the garden is open on 7th and 8th June. If you want to visit, I'll save some seed for you (or send some on when it's ready)
