Deciduous shrub, reaching six feet in ten years. Will tolerate a fairly sunny position as long as the soil remains moist.

Yes, there are three azaleas in this bed, behind the melianthus. Usually the melianthus has been cut back by now so they take centre stage.

Are they perfumed Andrew?

Yes they are. Even with my limited sense of smell, I can detect something.

oh, what gorgeous colour. how long does the display last?
3 May, 2014
Only about three weeks Fran

aw, that's a shame. and for the other 49 weeks it just sits three?
3 May, 2014
Yes, but normally the melianthus is growing up in front and hiding it. There are also veronicastrums and aconitums planted behind it, which flower later in the year.

oh, that sounds good, clever planting - lol not that I'd expect anything else from you! each has its place in the spotlight, then yeilds to something else.
