Daylily cross - Star of India x Mort Morss

Daylily cross - Star of India x Mort Morss

The most unusual of all the daylilies is the 2 petal/2 sepal one-offs. There isn't even a name for them (if you think of polys, there has to be a minimum of 4). I found this one in the afternoon, too late to use for crosses, so I saved the pollen overnight and have been spreading it around today, hoping something will take. Even if the form isn't passed on, there is always the applique throat.

This is really something else - I've never seen that before!

I have only had one other like it, a couple of years ago. I made some crosses, and I hope they take and pass on the trait. That's how the poly types happened - someone was able to breed them from the odd flower.
