Blakea gracilis

Blakea gracilis (Blakea gracilis)

My 14 year old Blakea gracilis has burned very badly from the extreme heat waves we've had in San Diego this May. This plant will recover; however, it will take a while. Photo taken May 17, 2014.

Yes, it's very badly burned. It will recover, though.

Wow that must have been hot. I notice in your write up that you do get extremely high temperatures. We only get temperatures that high when we go on holiday abroad....lol. It's amazing how plants adapt to differing weather conditions and temperatures. It's nice to know though, that this will recover. <]:-))

Alanb:

Yes, we were getting temps around 106ºF (41ºC) here in inland San Diego...even at the coast the temps were around 100ºF (38ºC), which is unusual for this time of year. It's common to have temps like this (or hotter) in late summer or fall, though.
