Glaucidium palmatum - 2014

An interesting one, Andrew! New to me...

A bit 'fussy', definitely one for good woodland soil, although mine is growing in a fairly dry spot under an apple tree. And slugs love it! :-(
There's also a rare white-flowered version, but I have not been able to get that going.

Don't mention slugs - or in my case, snails. They're everywhere! Your Glaucidium is lovely. :-)

I've already lost two plants of campanula trachelium to snails - it appears to be one of their favourites :-(
I think I will also have to get rid of crinums - snails use the leaves as a hotel.

I pulled out some Lunaria yesterday and found massed ranks of snails under the leaves!!!

I think the mild wet winter suited them. I have reduced the population of slugs and snails in my garden over the years by doing twilight patrols in the garden, and putting a pinch of salt on any I find. They die horribly - it's very satisfying!

Eeeuch! I tread on any I find when I let Henry out last thing. Crunch! During the day, they go for a swim in the stream. ;-D)

I find some of mine somehow trying to find their way across the road outside :-O

Ah, but they have to be 'sent' more than 65m, or they return if they have made it.

They end up under the wheels of passing traffic - I don't think they ever make it back.
