Twenty minutes each day with a dutch hoe keeps weeds at bay and the regular hoeing makes the soil surface very fine so it dries out quickly which deters the slugs,also this fine layer around 25mm deep acts as a mulch, can in the long term save a few hours work I do a different planted up area each day weather permiting,
