this is about the only plant we kept when we moved in to the house and revamped the garden. Hubby keeps threatening to cut it down each April and I have to tell him to wait until its flowered. One year I know I will come home to a pile of twigs on the lawn when he gets the cutters to work while I am out... I don;t mind it getting a hard chop after its flowered.....

I love this shrub too,Sarah..and I bit the bullet with mine last year, after flowering..I took out all the thick long branches, right to the bottom..pretty drastic really, but in no time, new shoots appeared from the base..This year,as yet,I have no flowers, but the foliage is so fresh looking and lovely, and a wonderful shape..I am prepared to wait .:o)

I have this one, nice, think is W. Florida. They are robust and can stand pruning, when flowering is over. My husband seems to want to cut back plants severely too, what's with that, lol ?

I will take a photo, and post it tomorrow,Sarah..mine is W.florida too..It's not far from the size before I gave it the Chelsea chop,so I'm happy with it,and surprised ,to be honest.I also dug in plenty of compost in spring,,as it was pretty lacking in nutrients..so that will have helped a lot..
