Hattie's Pincushion is the pretty name for these flowers so I believe. We were given some of these plants for our Ruby Wedding Scottish but Astrantias don't do well in our garden. Tried plantings several times over the years but they never flourish. I think they like moisture. In Essex we can't provide that throughout the summer.

Thanks Michaella - isn't it.
Dorjac, yes, they live the moist conditions up here. Have you tried them in shade, they may fair better.

At my cousins in Cheshire her Astrantias flourished in the shade of a hedge in very light sandy soil. In our garden the soil is baked hard and gets really dry in summer. My border is crammed up with all sorts. I just fancied them as they flourished so well in her garden.

That's a shame Dorjac, if you ever fancy giving them another go in spot that doesn't bake so hard, let me know and I'll send you some down to try.

These are lovely Scottish. Dorjac, before planting again try adding lots of grit to the soil. The first year water them well and you might succeed.

We do so well with the common one which grows where it likes.....but the darker ones we struggle....

One of mine vanished but reappeared a couple of years later and has flowered and spread a little since then.
