That sounds foreign to me...as roses can bloom all year here.

We usually get a huge first flush of blooms at first, then sporadic blooms throughout the summer, but nothing like the first flush when they are all in bloom together. But the blooms just last a few days.

Do you cut them back in winter?

I usually prune out the old canes in Autumn. Maybe they respond to the shortening of days.
