I have no idea really what it is called I was told it was Rose of Sharon, think it is Hypericum St Johns wort really. As for their botanical names you will never get that from me, I cannot remember some peoples names so I have no chance with remember latin names. lol. Its an age thing lol. :O) I will leave the botanical names up to the more educated gardeners on here. lol. You will just have to put up with my senile moments I am afraid. lol.

The name "Rose of Sharon" is also commonly applied to two different plants, neither of which is likely to have been the plant from the Bible:
Hypericum calycinum, an evergreen flowering shrub native to southeast Europe and southwest Asia
Hibiscus syriacus, a deciduous flowering shrub native to east Asia
....from Wikipedia. I thought it was Rose of Sharon too Mum. Seems they are both known as that. Confusing!

I noticed that more people on GOY call Hypericum a Rose of Sharon, not just you Oliveoil. That is why I made that comment.

I knew Hypericum as Rose of Sharon, but didn't know that Hibiscus was known by that name. Common names really confuse me, but I've always preferred the Latin names ...just like them!

Mine is starting to bloom as well Oliveoil. It is interesting that we call Hypericum= St John's wort and Hibiscus syriacus= Rose of Sharon
That is why it is important to use the botanical names...I think. Common names vary in different parts of the world..
