I've never really worked out whether these plants are useful of not. They don't have a good habit, and the flowers don't seem to last long with me.

I have several, K and Andrew, and find them very reliable. The gold one was probably 'Sweet Kate', K. As to heavy soil, you could, sadly, be right. :-(

I cant get them to perform well for me either and the slugs etc just love them.

Isn't it strange how slugs and snails in different parts of the country have appetites for different plants?

Yes, it is, and I'm sick of snails this year - they seem to be everywhere. Grrr....

Now, this is different isn't it? This reminds me, I tried to grow the lovely golden foliage one last year, but it died on me. Probably the wet heavy soil was to blame, but do you find these easy B? I would like to try it again in the golden border.
