Ballcocks (use your imagination)! (Acanthus mollis)

That's close to what I said when I saw the storm damage this morning. This is half of one of my Acanthus plants. As flat as a very flat thing! I slept through it all.

My goodness! What did you experience, a tornado?

I have never seen anything like this in my life!

No idea - I was asleep! I'm told that there was quite a storm with thunder too.

It sounds like a severe thunderstorm.

Sorry to see the damage. We haven't had storms here. and it's been very hot. I hope we don't have any storms, and that you don't have any more of them ...

Homebird and Hywel - this was the only thing that got badly damaged thankfully. Pretty disappointing though as there was over twenty flower spikes on this one clump.

Only just seen this Meanie we didn't have any rain or storms that night ( I remember 'cos it was OH's birthday we had a BBQ ) but our daughter was sitting up on her bed with her family after midnight all watching the lightening and listening to the thunder our granddaughter took some amazing shots of the lightening ,the streets where they live were flooded the next day ! I guess some must have headed your way ,you slept right through it , sleepy head :o)

You've treated her well Meanie ,ours reached 22 we thought she would go on forever ! I bought a Salvia today at Blickling Hall N.Trust ... S. ' Wendy's Wish ' quite a large plant unfortunately on a close inspection when we arrived home the seeds have already fallen from the husks , do you have this one ? I'll try to take cuttings if not it means waiting until next year !

I have Wendys Wish, although it is not doing well this year. Last year it was phenomenal, blooming almost up to christmas.
It does not set seed so there was none to drop, although it is very easy from cuttings. It was a hybrid that occurred in the garden of an Australian Salvia collector who registered it with the proceeds going to the Make A Wish foundation (hence the name). One of the parents is thought to be S.buchanani.

Thanks for that info. Keith its nice to know the back ground story of a plant and to know the proceeds went to a good cause , my new plant has overnight produced 3 flowers I think it liked being released from its pot and being re-planted ,I'm putting a photo of it on now , I've also taken 2 cuttings this morning with fingers crossed !
