These very tall (at least 50' or 16m), old Kentia Palms were enjoying the cloudy weather from the monsoonal flow which we've been having today...we're just hoping and praying for some rain to help our extreme drought. Photo taken July 19, 2014.

We only typically get the clouds from the monsoonal flow with lots of heat and humidity. This past year was horrible for the heat! We did get some of the worst severe thunder storms with heavy rain in some area back in Sept. These severe thunder storm caused a tremendous amount of damage in some areas around San Diego County. These unusual thunderstorms came from the outer bands of hurricane Odile. Here's a few of the videos.

Thanks for the links, D1. We have just had our power back on after a 36 hour interruption. We had such strong winds that trees were blown over. It's the same story we've had in years past with snow burden added to the mix. Thankfully over the last few days no snow but the winds had the trees in our forest groaning and some lost their tops. Micro bursts are crazy things tho... hope the rain that is on the way is a little less dramatic. It was interesting to see how localized the bursts can be.

I hope you stay safe and sound with all the high winds and snow. You must be experiencing some of the really cold weather and snow as in the Mid-West eastern states here in the US. On the other side we've been experiencing very hot weather. (Nov. 27, 2014) we had one of the hottest Thanksgiving on record. It was mostly in the 90's (34º) in many areas of San Diego County and where my dad lives (where I was for Thanksgiving Day) in Riverside County there's was some unofficial temps close to 100ºF (38º). All I know it was very, very HOT!

I can't recall if I heard about any rain in your vicinity, D1. How did it go?
