This Bougainvillea was in a field next to a bridge here in San Diego, CA. It grows wild along the freeways, also. The background trees are Ficus benjaminia (Weeping fig). Photo taken July 19, 2014.

Bougainvillea is available in dozens of varieties here in San Diego. They're all still in full with the hot weather. Believe-it-or-not it's going to be in the low upper 80's and low 90's (31 - 33ÂșC) again today here in inland San Diego. Today is Thanksgiving Day and it feel like the middle of summer. We're so desperately praying for the rain that is forecasted this coming Monday and Tuesday!
Ficus benjamina is very drought tolerant. They love lots of heat...they grow very well even in the extreme heat of the low deserts of California and Arizona.

The greenhouse at the U. had this pretty fuschia colour and a gorgeous peach shade. Always think of them trailing over an adobe wall... definitely not something for where I live but it's always been my favourite! The F. benjamina is a favourite in the malls here. How have they been over this very dry summer?
