Succulents grow very well in San Diego's very dry climate. Photo taken July 19, 2014.

Yes, there's many species and varieties of Echeveria grown as ground cover here. It's not my favorite plant but it makes a good drought tolerant ground cover.

If you dislike the dry look move to Hawaii - warmth and rain!

I'm from Honolulu, HI. Most of Honolulu is very dry...with the exception of the mountains and higher valleys...like where I'm from, Kalihi Valley (it's on the edge of the tropical rainforest) where it rains every night.
Actually, all the Hawaiian Islands have a wet and dry side to the islands.
