There's many tropical Ficus species in this area. This is a young Indian Banyan tree that was planted a few years ago. It will eventually become a very large tree. Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on Aug. 19, 2014.

Yes, most Ficus species are drought tolerant. They love the heat, though...and grow very quickly.

It'll take decades. Most likely about 10 years to grow to 30' (10m).
