Peltophorum pterocarpum - Yellow Poinciana Flowering

Peltophorum pterocarpum - Yellow Poinciana Flowering (Peltophorum pterocarpum - Yellow Poinciana)

This very tall (~55' or 17m) yellow poinciana is blooming above the giant bird-of-paradise which is around 35' or 12m tall. This is also the tallest yellow poinciana tree in this area. Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on Aug. 19, 2014.

Yes, it a beautiful tree. I'm not sure why it's not a common tree here. It grows very quickly and flowers well here.

I had a little Baobab tree tree for a long time...then it rotted. I think it likes to be in the ground. It just takes so long to get large (hundreds of years). I have seen photos of the mature one which was moved to Perth. It's an amazing tree!

I know I saw photos of that beautiful Baobab tree in Perth. It's such a beautiful, majestic tree. It's estimated to be 750 years old.

There's 4 or 5 Baobab trees at the San Diego Zoo...they're most likely only 10 - 14 years old. They're still small and spindly only around 8 or 9' (2.4 - 2.7m) tall. They need about 740 years to get to a real tree size. LOL!
