Clematis texensis 'Queen Mother'

Good choice. I am now looking at shorter clems because so many of ours have climbed so high that they are best viewed from upstairs. Not what is wanted when we are on ground level looking out. This is a pretty colour.

I agree Scotsgran. The new short growing clems are so useful and beautiful. I love this Spritz.

I was torn - 'Princess Kate' was sooo pretty! I'd love to get her, and I see that Crocus sells them! Now where could she go.........

I am taking to the Texensis variety, only have one which is in flower now, but very pretty, certainly in the wrong place, but I am afraid to move it now, having waited over two years for her to flower!!

I'm almost at the point of ordering 'Kate' - if I dig up some Crocosmia, I could probably fit her in there to climb up my Robinia hispida. :-))))

I think you're wise not to attempt a move - they don't always survive, do they.

Not unless they are the thugs of the clematis world!!

this is lovely, Im looking for something like it that wont grow to tall and will grow in the shade

I have 'ladybird Johnson and she gets very large but such a good plant and flowering later in the year is a bonus.

Aquilegia, like most Clems, the texensis group like their 'feet in the shade and their heads in the sun'. You might find a Honeysuckle (Lonicera) that meets your needs - I spotted a new dwarf one the other day at a GC.

Hmmm...I have 'Guernsey Cream' in quite a bit of shade. It copes and produces flowers although my second one in the sun flowers like mad! Otherwise, 'Nelly Moser' is a good one - mine faces North and is very happy there.
