Hylocereus undatus - Dragon Fruit

My dragon fruit is developing a couple of fruits. I can't believe it! It's only developed one fruit in 10 years. This cactus vine is very common here and most people get fruit very easily (when they're pollinated), except for me, for some reason. There's 3 common varieties grown here: red, pink and salmon. Mine is red if I'm not mistaken. Photo taken Aug. 26, 2014.

Yes, I feel pretty lucky. :>) I figured out this cactus needs more water for it to produce fruit. It usually doesn't get any water at all during late spring through late fall.

Most fruits are largely made up of water! But it is counter-intuitive to keep a cactus on the moist side isn't it!

It depends if the cactus is native to desert or tropical rainforest. I think dragon fruit is native to wetter tropical rainforest.

That's funny. I know it has lot of anti-oxidants. Someone stole the fruit one day before I was going to pick it. :>(
