My Desert Rose has a few flowers. This is the same which has the seed pod. Photo taken Sept. 23, 2014.

The desalination plant in Carlsbad should be in operation I think in a few years. We desperately need it. The drought has been severe here. Plus, it's been so hot this year, the heat actually started in December of last years.

The poor old Pacific must be at the boiling point nearer the equator! So is this going to be an El Nino or La Nina?

Yes, we're in a severe drought and it's been so hot. We're praying for cooler weather with rain. We desperately need a rain.
It's suppose to be an El Niño year. The water in the Pacific Ocean has been much higher than normal since early spring. The average ocean temp is still 73ºF (23ºC), it was much warmer a few weeks ago. The scientists are saying it's not going to be a strong El Niño, though. We'll have to wait and see.

I remember the first one. I was living in Moosonee (on the southern tip of James Bay) and went over to a friends house on New Year's Eve 1993-4. It was usually VERY cold during that period (minus 20-30) but that year it was above zero and the water was running high in the ditches. All the snow melted and when the temps went back down again to normal levels the frost froze the ground to a depth of 6 ft and it was too cold to snow.

That's sounds like horrible cold! We never have cold anywhere near those temps. If it gets below 60ºF (16ºC) we're freezing to death, here in San Diego.

It was nice to see rain yesterday. Its been so long since it rained in the middle of the day..probably April was the last that happened in Hayward. We did have a good rains a couple of weeks ago..at night.
On the positive side also..my small lot means nothing has to be sacrificed. So one large Howea gets what it needs. 10 or 20 palms wouldn't.

I heard about the rains a few weeks ago. That's a pretty good start to the rainy season. I heard there may be more rain over the next couple of days up north. No rain for us in San Diego, though.
That's true the fewer plants the more attention to the few. I have so many and some are being neglected. I will be selling off some soon, though. This is due to the drought.

Pretty soon my lone Adenium- arabicum- will have to come in. Didn't bloom this year..always had previous summers outside. It grew..I can see the larger trunk. These are tricky plants. I'm cured of adding more!

Most likely your Adenium arabicum will bloom next year.
I purchased an A. arabicum last year and it bloomed and is bursting out it's small pot. The caudex has double in size since last year.

Do they have the desalination plant in operation yet, D1? Have been seeing some staggering photos of the drought.
