Ananas comosus 'Super Sweet' - Super Sweet Pineapple

Ananas comosus 'Super Sweet' - Super Sweet Pineapple (Ananas comosus 'Super Sweet' - Super Sweet Pineapple)

My Pinepple plant was planted from the top of store-bought pineapple. It's still growing bigger. I'm guessing in a couple of months it'll be ripe. Photo taken Sept. 26, 2014.

Hmmm. It looks very attractive.

Thanks! It should ripen in a couple of months if the weather continues to be hot. Many time Oct/Nov can be very warm to hot in San Diego.

I wish to have a weekend ant the seashore, reading this :-)

If you were here in San Diego, you would be right by the Pacific Ocean. :>)

I love fresh pineapple lucky you, although I could not cope with the heat....

Yes, I can't wait until this pineapple ripens. It's the sweetest variety I've ever eaten. :>)

It's cooled down quite a bit the last two days...it's only been between 83 - 88ºF (28 - 31ºC).

Only been......ha ha !!

I say "only been" because the weather forecasters were predicting very hot weather. Now, this coming week the highs are predicted to be 80ºF (27ºC)...that's very comfortable weather for this time of year. Much more comfortable than the potential 110ºF (43ºC) weather we can have this time of year in inland San Diego. Although, it's not over yet. November is the sunniest month in San Diego...we've had and can have very warm to very hot weather (from the extremely dry, hot Santa Ana Winds).

Home grown are very sweet. I've done it with plain supermarket plants indoors. Not huge fruits..lol. But tasty!

I've grown them in the past, also. Yes, sweet; however, not very large. This one is getting larger than the other I've ever planted. It's now more than double the size in this photo. I'll have to post a more recent photo.

I had to plant this pineapple because it was one of the best-tasting pineapples I've ever purchased in a store here in CA. It was truly super sweet.

I've seen people plant nice pineapples in the ground and produce beautiful good-sized fruit here. Every time I plant them in the ground the bugs eat all the roots and the plant dies. They also need a very nice east-facing location morning sun. If they grow facing south they will burn to death.

There was an article Andy in the Daily Review of a Haywardian growing Pineapples outdoors in his brick planters. I guess the kind you see fronting so many 50-60's tract homes. That and a short overhang...frost protection, warm bricks and a raised bed for drainage.

I myself had that same problem with insects outdoors. I might try again.

I grew them in the Bay Area. It's a pretty hardy plant. It's just need some heat to develop fruit. It doesn't like a lot of heat, though.
