This is a fading flower from the Lagerstroemia speciosa. It's a large, beautiful tree in the tropics. Here in San Diego's subtropical climate it doesn't grow so large. Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on Sept. 29, 2014.

Yes, large trees are very spectacular when in bloom. They are very widely grown in Hawaii. Here in San Diego it's not so common...it really wants a truly tropical climate to grow well.

Our Lagerstroemia Indica was about to bloom and got checked, annoying because there were loads of buds, and there still are, but it looks as if they are not going to open....they do so well in France.

It's too bad it bloom so late in the year. :>(
Hopefully, you'll have a little warm spell for the tree to bloom!
They start blooming here in late March or April...many L. indica trees are still blooming. I do see some drought stress on some median and street trees, though.
