These are beautiful. It will grow several feet :)

Thanks Hywel I got the offset from one that was at least four foot tall in a garden centre ("Oops") should not have said that, it's just that it looked different to another Trigona I have, (purchased). I've been looking after this rubra for more than 18 months now and suddenly it has started to show its self off.
Johnjoe it is a much deeper red than the photo shows maybe I'll get a better shot sometime later.

Forgot to say the larger one should be on top of the smaller one I broke it off reaching across in the greenhouse, so it would be quite tall now if it was not so.

Shame it broke :(
There is a green variety. I've got a small one of them - only bought last year.
My rubra is nearly 3 ft tall.

I have a green one as well, but it’s too big for me to be look after during the coming colder months, so I have taken a cutting that is now growing in the greenhouse and doing well. Having seen the parent of the Trigon Rubra I have become really enthused about going for size, if three foot or more is likely, it seems I should be looking at re-potting.

Why can't you look after them ? They don't need any looking after in the winter ... just keep them dry

It's the dry part I can't get, the green house is full of keeping dry cacti, so any sub -zero temperatures are going to give me some problems this year as well.

WHen I had a green house I used to cover the cacti with sheets of newspaper on frosty nights, and I had a small paraffin heater (it was very messy though !)
