Thanks Hywel, have never understood them or vegetables, a bit like poetry when I was in school.

What's to understand ? They are just fascinating - all the different shapes etc.
Maybe you should try growing one :) Their flowers are very beautiful ...

I guess its a communication thing, I like the smell, feel, texture etc. of my plants and always thought the cactus does not give a lot (subjective view I know), a bit like when you have had dogs all your life a cat can be difficult to adjust to but yes I will give it a whirl and grow one this year. What should I start with?

I understand what you mean. I am biased lol !
If you really want to try a cactus, a Mammillaria or Rebutia might be good choices. They are smallish and flower easily.
I don't know if you've seen my photos. I have lots of flowering cacti on the pages.

Did you manage to find one Taurman? I used to have a rebutia - only small but flowers easily as Hywel says.
They reproduce rather like sempervivums in that you can end up with a little heap of them, and you can detach one and grow it on separately if you want to.

Hi Steragram, Hope you are having a good holiday season. Not yet, absorbed with my choir till this week. Will have a look after christmas, may be some bargains in the garden centre. Good cheer.

Choirs take up a lot of time at this part of the year don't they?
