There's actually several papayas like this around my neighborhood. There's actually a nicer one I pass by every time I go to work (it's about a half mile away from my house) . I need to get a photo. It's loaded with papayas like this one.
I've had very bad luck growing tropical papayas in the SF Bay Area. The only ones which grew well are the Babaco and Mountain Papayas.

Wednesday is predicted to be by far the coldest morn of the season- either 33 or 34,depending on the weather website. So far they say we hit 37-41 last night...
I plan to cover. From what I see of long range forecasts- Wednesday will the last frosty morn of January.

It's been very chilly here in San Diego, also. It's been in the low 40's here where I live, the last two mornings. The highs have only been in the low to mid-60's. It's feeling like winter...considering we had over a year of well-above normal temps. I haven't seen what the long-term forecast is for San Diego.

For the first time in my life I have a real idea of the winter it takes to grow Papaya. Right now,the in ground Maridol is summer green. The potted Maridol are lighter green.more stressed. I've tried Papaya 4-5 times since the 80's to now..and never came even this close to having them survive.
Here,Alex they are calling for the Sat- ? to have a few upper 30's lows. Not bad..but not the 50f we had that was so Canary Islands,Channel Islands like!
One last - if 37 or 38f is our coldest temps by February..this HAS to be the mildest year ever. I thought last year was good!
