Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana

Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana (Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana)

It suppose to get really warm this week for Christmas...so I decided to post this photo of a summer-flowering Royal Poinciana tree blooming in San Diego, CA. The bright red flowers remind me so much of Christmas. Photo taken July 24, 2013.

Isn't it. :>) I just wish we had as many Royal Poinciana trees as Jacaranda trees in San Diego.

That's amazing you have one in the ground still green! Delonix regia can grow extremely fast...maybe next year you'll get lots of growth. I know some young trees in Southern California can put on 6' of growth a year once they get a little established.

My friend has one in Fallbrook which has grown so tall and wide in the last two years. It's already getting the classic wide canopy and it's only three years old. All the heat from this past year has definitely helped.

Wednesday will probably be the coldest morn in low California. They revised up a degree for me. Still, going to cover.
I notice Andy- the Delonix in a pot are dropping foliage here and there. They also are now not in full sun. I put theie pot on top of a large planted box- sure enough, they rooted down into that. Cant move them for now.
BUT! my in ground Delonix and Maridol still look perfect!...getting more sun too.
If predictions hold up? We came within one degree of a 10b winter. We still might.

I have a feeling you will be getting some really cold temps next Wednesday and Thursday mornings. I have a feeling it'll be colder than you think with this arctic blast of air coming down.
