Since we were all grade schoolers- its "plant a tree". You get older,own a home,plant tree's. After a decade or two,you realize- "I don't need a tree"..don't need the shade,the roots,the slows-all other- plants- round-it-affect.
At least for the urban and suburban garden.

You're absolutely right!
Many trees/plants went through the process of "natural selection" and this huge tree survived for some 45 years (we counted the growth rings), doing not much good for us. Therefore, we had to get rid of it. I felt sorry for it but we had to.
