Thank you, Sandra and Hywel: I don't expect to see mild weather until mid March. The sun is very low on the horizon and days a quite short and long nights - - ahh time for hot chocolate ! :)

We have the long dark nights here also, and hardly any sun reaches my garden .... but the days are starting to lengthen slowly now :)
