Miniature colchicum, growing just a few inches high, for well-drained soil in full sun. Totally hardy, but an alpine house would allow it to flower with a bit of shelter.

Alpine house or nothing here they would never open in the garden, you must have a really warm sunny spot.

They are in a raised bed facing due south, but I was surprised to see them flowering so early.

Andrew I agree it is early, can only think earlier mild weather had some bearing on it, as you have seen the form C.H.Valentine has done the same thing here.
