Every branch on this coffee tree at the Medicinal Garden in Balboa Park has many coffee cherries. It's typical for a coffee tree. My 8' coffee tree has had ripe cherries for many months, now. Photo taken Jan. 22, 2015 in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA.

I'm guessing coffee has some medicinal purposes. I don't know what they are, though. lol!
I used to have a 8 or 9 ft tall coffee tree. I had it since 1999. It really suffered so badly from the drought. Last summer it died and I cut it down. This past winter with the rains some seedling came up under where it used to be. So, now I have some seedlings.
The coffee cherries are edible.
Here's a couple of my older pics of my coffee tree.
