This Cape Chestnut is flowering in January...it typically blooms in late spring or summer. The very warm weather is causing many tree to bloom early. Photo taken Jan. 22, 2015.

Thanks! It's one of the most spectacular flowering trees.

There's one of these I heard in Fremont. For a couple of years HD was selling seedlings as house plants. Then, never again.
Are they fragrant?

There used to be two very nice large flowering trees on Disscoll Rd in Fremont. Sadly, they were cut down in the late 90's. These trees went through the freeze of 1990 with not problem at all. The other tree that I know of is in Fremont in the Irvington District. It's difficult to find, though. I took photos of the tree in full flower spike back in 2011. I discovered this tree many years ago when I lived in Mission San Jose, Fremont. It was down the street from Safeway Grocery Store on Washington. I've seen it in bloom many times because I lived up the street from where it was located.
I'll have to post the photos I took of this Fremont tree, again.
