In my previous post...I say how they bloom very well outside of San Francisco. I wish I had photos of the large trees which were cut down in the late 90's (in Mission San Jose on Discoll Rd just below Mission Blvd.). They bloomed so beautifully every year.
I'm not sure why this tree is not grown more often in the Bay Area. It's an extremely hardy tree. It can tolerate 20ºF (-6.6º) or slightly lower without damage.

Alright!..My sister lived in Irvington way back when for years. Also in Warm Springs. I remember in spring how much warmer it was there then in Hayward. No winds,none of that nagging bay breeze.
Thats a tree I've been told wont grow or flower here. I knew they were wrong.
