Codiaeum variegatum 'Mammy'

Codiaeum variegatum 'Mammy' (Codiaeum variegatum 'Mammy')

My Codiaeum variegatum 'Mammy' is still growing. It's been in this spot for years and loves it! Photo taken Feb. 2, 2015.

Is that in the ground? Even in soucal a Croton is rare to see outdoors. I know I watch all the TV shows of moving to soucal and havent seen a single Croton. Plumeria- yes and huge. Ficus, C&S..but it seems to take a real expertise to keep then going in California- congrats!

No, it's in a pot. Here in San Diego I have seen many crotons in the ground in the neighborhoods. There's several at the San Diego Zoo, also. One house in my old neighborhood has dozens of beautiful ones in front of their house. They "appear" to grow much better here in San Diego than in other parts of Southern CA.; however, I hate to make definitive statements because I'm always proven incorrect (as I haven't been to everyone's front and back yards here in Southern California. lol).

What does C&S mean?

Cacti and Succulents.
Croton's are the kind of plants that need somebody who knows what they are doing. Here in California, unlike Florida, I would think that any change in home ownership would be death to a plant that needs as much water and care as Crotons do here.

You are correct. Crotons need to have regular water here in CA. In Florida and Hawaii they receive enough water and heat throughout the years for them thrive.

I have lost many crotons in the past due to the hot, dry Santa Ana Wind conditions. I've always heard they were very drought tolerant. This is definitely not the case here in San Diego...they will completely dry out and die when it's very hot from Santa Ana conditions, when not watered. (I had to learn the hard way). I've also found out they prefer to be in morning sun or semi-shade than in full sun where they will burn when it's very hot.
