Hi, Lindak, we do not grow olive trees, so we do not have vessels like this for that purpose. It was later painted with blue ornaments. If you know Delfts porcelain (Dutch), then in the Slovak town Modra there had been produced similar ceramics, tiles, etc for century. This was famous Czechoslovak ceramic factory with studios for different pottery and my grandfather had got the master degree in the craft. Unfortunately, when the world crisis started, he left the studios and started his own business in something different. But he was very talented.
Creating of these large vases (many are in castles over Hungary and Czech republic) was the job for the most skillful. My sweet grandfather.

How lovely to have a photo to keep like that. Is that his trade, making large pottery vessels like that, and what did they keep inside? Wine...olive oil?
