David, I was given one in November but it has only started growing now. It is growing fast since yesterday. It now has five leaves and is two inches tall. Not much you may say but I have had one, one inch leaf for months. Is it too late for a flower?

Linda: You may gate a flower at any time. Although the flowers usually come before the leaves it's still quite common for them to flower later so all is not lost for this year. Just keep it in good light & water & feed it according to the the instructions on the fertilizer bottle. A general fertilizer is best till June when you can change over to a tomato or rose fertilizer. Be careful never to leave your plant in water for more than a few hours or the roots could rot & you may lose your bulb.

What do you feed yours with?, I also have one on the window sill and it's just sending leaves up no sign of any flower ...

Stripes, while it's sending up leaves it's alive & healthy! It may flower later in the year. Keep it in a warm, frost free window so it gets plenty of light & feed it with a general fertilizer till the end of May then change over to a tomato or rose feed till September. In September stop ALL watering & don't give it any water till January at the earliest. Better still don't start to water again till you notice the bud beginning to push out of the neck of the bulb. You won't harm the bulb by waiting till then to water it.

You can ask me at any time any questions you like on your bulb, I'll try to answer them the best I can.

Thanks Balcony. I think I will be without a flower this year. I have five leaves coming now. It is two and a half inches tall. Growing fast tho'.

They do grow fast once they start! You now need to feed it with a general fertilizer. Then at the end of May change to a tomato or rose fertilizer. Stop feeding it at the end of August. Then stop all watering & leave it to go dry till the New Year. When it should produce a bud. It needs a couple of months of rest & cold - though keep it frost free. Only when you see a bud coming out of the neck of the bulb should you start t to water it again.
