Carica papaya 'Maradol' growing in San Francisco Bay Area

Ah! FANTASTICO!..lol. I think I've seen that yard. Is that near Palma Cia? You know very close to there a Cherimoya plant got huge. That I posted on Daves Garden last year.
The one above is reveling in the reflected tropical "heat" of Hayward.

What surprised me so much was that it was covered with so many large fruit! It is in Palma Ceia on Tampa. The south-east exposure is obviously perfect for this plant. I'm guessing the fruit will be ripening in spring.

It's going to be interesting what the long-term survival of this papaya plant will be in the Bay Area. How are your papaya plants doing?

Cherimoya trees are very common in the Bay Area.

It has to be a Maridol. They are the most common at the markets here now.
Mine look fine. Its my first success with them since I started trying in the 80's. All my previous attempts died by December.
This Dec-Jan-Feb average was about 65f and 48f. Maybe the mildest ever.
The Cherimoya there Andy..is HUGE. It has to be 25' at least. I thought a 10-12' footer also near there was big until I saw that.

Get this- my Delonix seedlings? Somebody took every one in the ground. I have some rentals and that's happened before. Somebody who's a "friend" of theirs takes cuttings or even plants every few months. Its my best spot for them...my own private yard is far too shady.

That's horrible! I can't believe someone would steal your Delonix seedlings. They looked so good, too. Hopefully, you can get grow more seedlings. I used to grow and sell many seedling. I think I'm going to grow them again this year.

I found it. !...I talked a bit to the owner. He said he planted it last year. I see them at HD and Regans in gallon cans,I just never thought they would survive here. I'm still amazed.

I told him he did a fantastic job..his friend was like "Impressed over that?"lol. Non plant people.

Great! That's good growth for one year. I'm guessing it was a couple of feet tall when he planted it.

Maradols and Hawaiian Solos are sold here at most nurseries. The first Hawaiian Solos and Maradols I planted were purchased from Home Depot when I moved into this house. One of the Maradol papaya plants lived and produced well for about 10 years. They should be replaced every 3 or 4 years.

My favorite papaya tree I would see every day going and coming home from work, the owners cut down. I sadly never got a photo of this gorgeous tree! (I could kick myself!) :>(( It had dozens of giant leaves and most likely had over 100 papayas on the trunk. I can't imagine why anyone would want to cut down such a productive and beautiful tree!
