I think this is the largest in town. Doing well on less then average watering,or average at best.

It looks great considering it doesn't get a lot of water. It's too bad the trunk is damaged, though.

That's usually caused by removing a frond too soon. I've seen them go from normal to gaping wound when the owners tried to rush neatness out of the palm. Or,too soon in spring. The one I'm thinking of then had normal fronds in summer..but the trunk looked terrible and they cut it down.

Yes, I know it's best to let the leaf bases to fall off naturally.

I forgot to say there's some larger ones in San Jose. I'm sure there's some larger ones in private garden throughout the Bay Area, also.
