It's such a cold, dismal, drizzly Mothering Sunday afternoon here... But seeing your Desert Rose has brightened my mood - It looks pretty amazing to me, Delonix - Is it highly perfumed?

You wouldn't believe how hot it is right now at 8:30 a.m. (80ºF - 27ºF already)...it'll get up to 95ºF (35ºC) today.

WOW... That is what I'd call HOT!!! You'll be drinking plenty of cold water/drinks throughout the day I hope...? I'm off now to make Tea for my Hubby and a nice big mug of decent Coffee for me to warm us up...! :D

Wow! if temps are 95°F in March, what will they be like in July & August? I hope this long dry spell is broken soon.

It's so miserable! My house is getting up to 90ºF (32ºC) and the nights have been so hot that it doesn't cool off. I really don't want to use the a/c yet...however, I'm getting very tempted.

We commonly get winter heat waves (Dec - March) when the temps reach 90ºF (32ºC) inland (where I live); however, the hot weather doesn't usually last all winter long and get quite so hot. The last 4 days we've had records high temps. The most unusual thing about this heat wave is that the nights have been hot and the morning lows (around 5:00 a.m.) have been in the low 70's (22ºC)...that doesn't usually happen until summer.

By Wednesday the temps will be closer to 80ºF (27ºC), which is still above our normal high of 73ºF (23ºC) for this time of year.

I don't want to even think about how hot it's going to be this summer. I suspect it'll be hot because the ocean temp has been a good 5 to 7 degrees above normal. Last summer the Pacific Ocean along Southern California's coast was running a good 10 degrees above normal (all summer). San Diego Bay's water temp is now 66ºF (19ºC), which doesn't happen until late April or early May.

Shame you can't export some of that heat to us here in the uk.

You definitely would feeling hot if your were here. It's already 88ºF (31ºC) at 10:30 a.m. here where I live. I'm tired of it, though. It's been pretty hot all winter long.
I think tomorrow it's going to be a little cooler.

Great bloom-congrats Delonix. I saw this post and wouldn't you know it my A.arabica has a bloom on it and if I don't already sound like you enough sometimes,its the earliest it has ever bloomed (its indoors).
Not hot here 70f and 50f+ But I did notice that every night has run 4-9f warmer then last year at this time. Same day temps.

Also,readers should know these are expensive plants when they get size to them. I 'm going to post my struggler...they hate indoors,outdoors here they collapse fast in cold weather.
Just my one plant for now.

This winter has been off the charts in warm. Tomatoes here are already 2' I read. Planted in February. Scary?

Thanks! My older plant is full of buds. It should be blooming over the next couple of weeks...as the temps should remain warm to hot.

Some larger plant can be expensive. I have seen some larges one for reasonable prices here, though.

Today it was only in the low 70's. Went to Balboa Park and took some plant/tree photos. I love when the weather is in the low 70's. This is not going to last...the forecast is for low to mid 80's this coming weekend.

Ever since my neighbor's cut down their very tall, old Eucalyptus trees my house is 7 to 10º hotter. The 15 trees had to be cut down because they were over power lines...even though the trees were there first.

The heat we're having is a very dry heat...so it's not so unbearable. The humid weather comes in summer during the monsoonal flow.

Here in the Southwest deserts, temps of more than 120ºF (49ºC) is common. I really don't like to go out to the desert in summer. I can't take that heat!

The biggest problem California is experiencing now is the worst drought ever. We only have enough water (in all our reservoirs) for the state to last about one year. We going to be experiencing extreme water rationing this year. :>((

Thanks! We'll need all the luck in the world...as far as water goes. All we can do is hope and pray we receive some summer rains, from the monsoonal flow.

It's very true the northeastern and eastern states have been extremely cold with tons of snow. The amount of snow some of the eastern states received is what the Sierra Mountains are suppose to receive. The snow pack in the Sierra Mountains is pretty much non-existent this year. This is where California gets it water from.

Yes, there's a lot of catchment places and reservoirs. There's just not enough for California's population. I know many cities in California are trying to figure a way to capture the billions of gallons of water that flow out to the ocean. That's were most of our precious water goes.

There's a water desalinization plant in Carlsbad which is going on-line in October. It's not enough, though. It's suppose to only supply about 10% of San Diego County. It's a start...especially with all that ocean water out there.

Melbourne built a desalination plant that will serve 300,000 people.and with the local rivers or streams are doing ok.
We must have stolen the plans..On the news a local city is building one. Well,will after the trials with a smaller setup. The big will be the same capacity as Melbournes.

I know the desalination plant in Carlsbad has been in the works for decades. You know how long things take because of politics, to get built. It's the same way with reservoirs. I remember the 1977 drought...I remember they were going to make several more reservoirs in CA. It never happened.
