Better Lucky Than Good x Hippie Crash Pad X Core Values

FFO. Not as exciting as either parent. But the season is slowly getting started.

Do you keep offspring for a second season, to see if they improve/ mature or does space mean you are annually ruthless?

Last year, I kept 25 out of almost 300 new seedlings, and got rid of several from the year before that didn't perform well. I go to a friend's place who takes most of my rejects, and a lot of them are doing extremely well, but they don't have the variation in colour and pattern that I want, so no regrets. I give some of the borderline ones to the neighbour behind me because I can use the pollen if anything improves.

So, everyone is happy then.

The problem with this island is that everyone has the same flowers in the same colours as everyone else, so they jump at the chance to have something no one else has, or wants to pay for. The lady in the main nursery has said that she thinks because she went to school for flowers, that she should be the only one allowed to import and sell them here.

and did she tell you that ?

I was with a former neighbour several years ago when she said it - before I really started with daylilies. I don't buy any seeds from her because they are stuck out on a rack for a couple of years without any enviromental control, which causes very low germination rates. I found seeds from eBay and Amazon.co.uk are much fresher.
