This is a large Horseradish tree. There's several more around this large one. This tree is widely used for medicinal properties and in cooking. Photo taken March 18, 2015.

Yes, the seeds are used in cooking.
This tree is really large. Typically, they grow very upright and narrow. This one is tall and wide.

I just saw a program about growing them as a crop in soucal.

I think most Moringa species are drought tolerant.
I only found out about 9 years ago that Moringa was grown as a crop in San Diego County.

It's a very widely grown shrub in subtropical and tropical climates. The seeds are eaten or ground up and made into a powder for very high-antioxidant tea. The roots are harvest like horseradish.
