planted these and a variety called "Freckles" in a corner of my town garden and in a couple of years they formed the most beautiful carpet. They make an excellent ground cover with their heartshaped dark green leaves. I brought some with me into the country and I'm hoping they'll establish as well here.

They are just one of those plants that when I see them they make me smile.

I agree! Since moving to the country I have found tiny white violets with a very sweet fragrance, pretty yellow violets that will grow in among tall grasses, and the usual purple/blues that colonize whole hillsides. In my other garden I had the variety "Freckles" which is white with purple dots! The whole viola family is a treasure, I think. :-) :-) :-)

It's nice having them raised up in the wall, on the day I took this I was kneeling down and the sun was filtering through them and they looked dream like.
