That is absolutely beautiful Keith!

Thanks all - I'm made up with it!
If the greenhouse hadn't dipped to -5°c over the winter when the shed electrics failed it would have been spectacular!

Wonderful!

Thanks DD!

It looks great! I'm surprised it survived such a temp.

Well worth the effort of the extra care in my opinion Delonix.
I'm not surprised as it survived far worse outdoors over the winter of 2012/13 (-12°c).

I didn't realize this shrub was so hardy. I know San Marcos growers in Santa Barbara rates it as being hardy between: 20-25° F (6.7 - 3.8°C). Did it freeze to the ground?

Surprisingly not. I was about to bin it at the end of June when I found the small shoots emerging.
Clearly treating it like that is pointless as it blooms in the spring on last seasons growth.

That's so amazing! This just shows how hardy some plants can be.

It proves a point maybe but as I said it is a pointless way to treat it considering the flowering habit.
My Brugmansia sanguinea took the same temps the same year as well.

B. sanguinea, I'm not so surprised. I know in colder parts of California it will freeze to the ground and come back very quickly. B. sanguinea prefers the cooler temps right along the California coast, where freezing temps are pretty rare or never happens.

It doesn't come back so quickly here!

So, it's a little slower? Typical growth from freezing to the ground is to 6 - 8' (2 - 2.5 m) by the end of summer here in most of inland low-land Northern California. The one I gave to my dad when he lived in south San Jose, would freeze down to the ground every 5 to 10 years...then it would come back nicer, fuller and faster than ever by September.
