I planted Acer shirasawanum 'Jordan' behind it last year to contrast the dark leaves. It is still small (5') . I hope it will survive. I have no luck with Japanese maples. I killed many of the red ones. They are OK in the pot but when I plant them in the soil they eventually die.
This rhodo is very showy and very large. Makes a statement in this time of the year. Probably not suitable for small gardens.

It is a beautiful red. The rhododendron is finishing blooming now.
