Last year, this had major hang-up problems: the ruffles would lock and it wouldn't open. This year it is doing much better, and I would like to use it, but it wants to open on rainy days.

Fortunately, it is dry today and 2 more flowers opened on this. I am trying to put a ruffled edge on some of my applique throats.

I take it that you need a dry day for pollen transfer, just like Iris?

The pollen has to be dry, the pistils cann't be defective, and it should be done before 11 AM. If you see a bit of liquid on the end of the pistil, it is too late. If it looks like it is about to start raining, I will make little tubes out of aluminum foil to put on after pollenating, and that works really well.
