sunflower seedlings

sunflower seedlings

150501 - I bought some mixed-pack seeds, one of which was sunflower. I already had a multi-pack of sunflower seeds, brought with me from the old place; their “use-by” date was this year, so they went straight into the ground, all round he front garden beds, two or three seeds per hole. I thought I’d try the newer seeds properly, and am glad to see that about half have started coming up. No idea if any of the others are still viable, but I’ll find out in time.

They've been nobbled already! looked yesterday, all the leaves have gone, only stems left. No idea what got 'em, they were on the top shelf of a 4-tier greenhouse, it must have been some climber! Hope the seedlings can come back from this, but if something got at 'em once, it can do it again

Amazing where snails can get when you are not looking Fran!

shee, not half! I hadn't expected that at all. and it's on a concrete base, so they'd have had no safe passage from nearby greenery. and the bottom covers the base completely, so they must be Houdinis as well as Hillarys

I bought some netting for my strawberries, seems that I'll have to put nets around greenhouse plants as well. Odd that they crawled up past three shelves of plants to get at these seedlings.

lol and not very good management! if they'd waited, there'd have been enough greenery to feed a colony
