Rhaphiolepis indica

Rhaphiolepis indica

This is such a pretty shrub. I would think it would be a good substitute for rhododendron if the soil is alkaline .
It is evergreen.
It was stripped by deer very badly but recovered nicely. It took pruning I suspect that it can be kept under control.
There is a smaller version (slower growing) shrub called "Ballerina "

For long time Homebird. It blooms in stages. It has lots of buds which open gradually. The leaves are leathery and quite attractive.

Oh yes, too big for inside Homebird. :-(
I know Dottydaisy grows it. Do you live far from her? In different zone? Mine is in protected spot but not in full sun.
