Strawberry Waiting Time

I planted 6 strawberry plants last year, the yield wasn't great,
This year it is looking very good, the plants have grown up to 15" high and are full of blossom.

Hopefully a good year for them , Johnjoe .
Mine seem very tall too , they seem to have been supported by oceans of foreget-me-nots surrounding them .

Thank you Thrupennybi. I hope the sweet little piglets keep to their word and stay away from the strawberry's, or they will be making sweet rashers. Lol

Thank you for the warning H/B. A soon as I see the strawberry's appearing I will make a netted frame to put over them. We look after our grandson Charlie when his mother is at college. Charlie is just gone two so we are going to have another problem with him trying to pull at the net. Its hard to win,,,,Lol

on my gooseberry bush I use to throw a fine net curtain over them.

Hi Homebird, your telling me now you love those cute little piggies. Well H/B I also love them, so if you think you are getting them you are not.......Lol

Thank you Thrupenybi, that is a good idea. I did plant a gooseberry last year. We called them when I was child goosgob. I got no fruit on them last year but this year I see a fair amount on it. So I will have to keep my eye on those blackbirds.

Yes Johnjoe we use to call them goosgobs toolol
After 2 years you can thin out your goosgob bush to let air through the bush and prevent sword flies attacking and eating all the foliage , so if you see bird especially blue tits on you gooseberry bush they are eating ghe sword files. With a fine net curtain it lets the light in but keeps the rest away.

I have read if Elder grow close by your gooseberry bush it keeps sword fly away.

Gosh your good Thrupennybit, I never even heard of sword flies. Thanks that is great information. I am of to google to see what they look like. I will have a look in the attic to see if I can find some net curtain with a bit of luck I might find threepennybit. Lol
